While there are plenty of other pictureque castles in the world nothing quite matches Hohenllern Castle's majesty and story-book architecture. This wonder is the work of Friedrich August Stuler, a student of Karl Friedrich Schinkel's Classical school, who built the castle in a Gothic revival style and as a monument to the German Romanticism movement - both homages to Middle Age simplicity. Built in 1867 atop Mount Hohenzollern (50 km south of Stuttgart, Germany, Hohenzollern Castle was rarely occupied, by that family that bears it's namesake, and used primarily as a show castle. Since 1952, Hohenzollern Castle has housed many collections from the Hohenzollern family including the Crown of Wilhelm II, Frederick the Great's uniform and a letter from George Washington and serves as the burial ground for Friedrich Hayek and several royal Prussians.
